With the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 almost upon us conspiracy theories and superstitions are swirling. Will the reactivation of the CERN particle accelerator open up a portal into a demonic dimension? Will a red heifer be sacrificed ushering in the anti-Christ? Is the eclipse a warning sign of the Prophet Jonah to Nineveh? Despite widespread scientific knowledge that “the moon blocks the light of the sun” during an eclipse, superstition and fear still seems to abound.

The scientists meanwhile parade out their same old, dusty text book excuses, eclipse after eclipse.

The days leading up to the total solar eclipse of August 21, 2017 were filled with eager anticipation by scientists and laypersons alike. It was the first coast to coast total solar eclipse in nearly a century as well as the first exclusively American one since 1778. A 2500 mile-long line of darkness stretching from Oregon to South Carolina would provide ample viewing locations for the nearly 40 million people who viewed the spectacle.  “Despite all the hype,” Wrote Jeffrey Kluger in an article for Time Magazine “the moon has nothing special planned for Aug. 21. It will continue doing what it’s done for more than 4 billion years—insensibly circling Earth, a dead rock at the end of a long gravitational tether.”

News outlets everywhere transmitted the scientists’ enthusiasm of a total eclipse of any predictions of doom. A reporter for Fox News debunked the “Top five worst superstitions about solar eclipses”:

“On August 21, skywatchers in the U.S. will gather to observe a total solar eclipse…Thanks to modern science, the reason for an eclipse and its pathway are common knowledge…There are many reasons that cultures responded to an eclipse with fright rather than with celebration. Time has shown that this panic was unfounded.”

In this modern scientific age, they warned that counterfeit eclipse glasses were the worst danger to any eclipse observer. Just days before the eclipse of August 2017, Ross Andersen the senior editor of Science, Technology and Health for the Atlantic wrote:

“The first thing to understand about the prescientific experience of an eclipse: It happened against this unnerving backdrop, this existential realm where the gods displayed messages of great import, messages that could be read only by the highest and most learned priests… A solar eclipse still exerts a pull on the dark side of the human imagination, but it weakens with every century. No one need fear bloody revolution on August 21.”

Jeffrey Kluger went on to predict that the eclipse would create a woodstock like experience bringing Americans together in a time of political division. It didn’t happen. Americans became even more divided following the eclipse of August 2017.

Nor did Ross Anderson’s prediction that “No one need fear bloody revolution on August 21.” come to pass. A leftist revolution took this nation by storm following the eclipse. “Trump Derangement Syndrome” metastasized into cancel culture and corporate censorship.  An unwarranted F.B.I. witch hunt found nothing and yet the delusional drum beat of “Russian Collusion” kept on until it morphed into two failed impeachment trials. And though Donald Trump survived his term in office physically unharmed, the revolution against America turned bloody during the Antifa and BLM riots that burned and looted American cities.

Despite their strong denials, a cursory examination of history reveals that a variety of calamities surround eclipses. I’ve studied eclipses for over a decade from a scientific and Biblical viewpoint and can prove this to be true. Here are a few correlations.

The annular solar eclipse of September 1811 was followed by the New Madrid earthquake, the failure of the first Bank of the United States and the War of 1812. The eclipse of June 1918 was followed by the “Spanish” flu which killed millions worldwide. Those are just two of the hundreds I have researched.

In response to examples like these, the scientists run to their final defence “Correlation is not Causation”. So let’s take a look at a hypothetical example:

Two people are found dead in the same room. Both have a gun in their hand or nearby their person. What do we know?

What we have so far is correlation. They are near each other and both are dead. What we don’t know is the cause of their death. To determine that, we could examine their wounds. If they both have bullet wounds we might assume they shot each other at precisely the same moment. We could confirm this by recovering the projectiles and confirming that they match the guns in the room, but what happens if the bullets came from a different gun other than the two in the room? Or what happens if there is a different cause of death? We must consider the possibility that the CAUSE of their death was something or someone outside of their realm.

The well documented correlation of eclipses with calamities presents a sticky wicket for the atheist. Either he or she must turn to astrology and search for a direct cause and effect relationship between the heavens and earthly events. Or the atheist must face his most dreaded reality: there is someone bigger than himself. Someone capable of controlling both the events on earth and the motion of the planets. What is worse: since the planets pre-existed and were set in motion before the events of history that “someone” would need to be outside of time and creation itself.

Oh, I realize the unbeliever will try to raise defenses like “a natural disaster killed the two guys” or “it was a disease that got ’em”; but a God who can create the heavens can kill as he pleases including with earthquakes and diseases.
