Are Eclipses signs of coming judgement? If you believe the Bible, then the simple answer is: Yes! God set the sun and moon “…to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness.” Genesis 1:18 (NKJV). The purpose of a judge is to divide good from evil. Light and darkness are also allegorical references to good and evil. Jesus said:

 “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness…”

John 8:12 (KJV)

The prophet Isaiah warned:

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil;
that put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Isaiah 5:20 (KJV)

Obviously, good and evil, light and darkness are on opposing sides, but it is the sun and moon that divide the light from the darkness.

What if you don’t believe the Bible is true?

If you are not intellectually lazy, you will need to do what the ancient Chaldean astronomers did. Grab yourself a list of solar eclipses. Stick with total solar eclipses as they are easier to understand than partial eclipses or lunar eclipses. Now place those eclipses opposite a year’s worth of historical events that surround the eclipse.

What do you see?

You should see either a war, a famine or a plague. And you should see something else. The eclipse comes before the war, famine or plague just like warning signs are placed before danger. Interesting. Perhaps God meant it when he said:

“Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs…”
